Concept |
Through research and, particularly, exploring my own familial experiences with hoarding, this collection developed and now exists as a critique/observation/enactment of value assignment/assessment/creation and most importantly, value subjectivity. Often, the only help offered to compulsive hoarders is cognitive behavioral therapy aimed at correcting their “irrational beliefs about the value of [their] objects.” Through mass amounts of cheap/trash materials, my arbitrary touch as an artist and designer is the only thing which instills these garments with any form of societal value.
Bio |
Ellis is a queer, non-binary artist, born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Their work exists primarily as fashion, exploring the innate interactivity between body and garment, particularly interested in the way garments act upon and influence the body that it envelops. Their non-fashion work exists in the fiber and textile realm, expanding upon the conceptual material relevancies that underlie their fashion work. Ellis is currently working with concepts of familial inheritance, exploring memories and histories they never had the chance to know.
