Concept |
In this garment I am aiming to to view identity as a cocoon; a web of protection. Beetle exoskeletons and butterfly wings act as prime examples of the ‘armor’ I envision to protect the human form. Using unconventional materials such as silicone caulking and liquid rubber I have created my own fabric samples inspired from insect research. This armor aims to both empower and shield the individual from danger when worn as almost a ‘second skin.’ I am manifesting my personal experiences into this concept as I always felt like an outsider growing up. In a sense, I created my own personal cocoon by making art to survive. These designs are ultimately rooted in authenticity and reflect my desire to never conform. My goal is to create garments in this series that encapsulate the wearer with a feeling of both strength and pride.

As a freelance makeup artist and drag artist, identity and the concept of transformation are present in many of my garments. I myself identify as androgynous and aim to create gender neutral clothing with an emphasis on authenticity.
