Memories of my childhood exude notes of that fresh 2 by 4 construction smell, as I spent much of it wandering through staged model homes of new communities popping up everywhere in my suburban Atlanta town. Giggling at the plate of plastic cheese and grapes sitting on a table in a seating area no one would ever want to sit in, I became familiar with the ways the function of a home is replaced with uncanny representations of existence. The creation of the facades and masks that are designed into homes such as McMansions and the ways in which living is presented through staging techniques. This informs my exploration of the clash between the human and the unnatural and the performative relationship between wearer and garment and to the patch- ing and decluttering of home and human transparencies.

When creating, I dream of scenes which grab hold of the familiarity of the home and the constructed memories and identity surrounding it. These comforts take on lives and characters of their own in the spaces I design for them, inspired by experiences in my own homes growing up. I approach the creation of fabrics with a deep curiosity of how the techniques I employ speak to larger concepts and stories surrounding the authentic versus performative and where these spaces overlap in scenes of the everyday, often manipulating the familiarity of common fabrics to be in conversation with personal prints and intense areas of detail.
