This piece is titled “Body as landscape.” It is a personal reflection of my family heritage and our way of being before immigrating to The United States. My Family comes from the southern mainland and west islands of Greece. For this garment I recalled how everything put into our bodies are from the land around us and how that directly affects the body. Playing with the idea of the land nurturing your body by putting those elements directly on the body. I specifically explored the salt caves of the Greece. My family used to walk to the sea and collect the sea salt that had formed. I wanted to represent these salt caves and salt crystals in the garment to emulate the idea of “salt of the earth.”
