Decomposition is seen as something disgusting or the inversion of something good or beautiful. But decomposition ,and the decomposers who make it possible, are a part of life and in many ways decomposition can be an unconventionally beautiful part of nature.
In my work, especially in fashion design, I’m inspired by decomposition and decomposers and showing people that decomposition and decomposers can be beautiful and interesting.
This dress is a part of a larger bridal collection based on maggots. Maggots are usually seen as disgusting but upon closer inspection they are just babies trying to eat and so they are completely innocent in a way. It’s from our human perspective we see them as off-putting. A cluster of pearls is seen as beautiful but a cluster of maggots are ugly but maggots aren’t just decomposers, they’re also new life that’s just starting out.
