Intrinsic Being

Dear Students, Families, Faculty, Friends, and our SAIC and Fashion Communities,

Welcome to Fashion 2023: Intrinsic Being. The collections you will see tonight showcase the unique sensibilities and individual point-of-views of our advanced senior fashion design students. They are informed by active care and deeply engaged sustainability, and through collaborations across disciplines; they explore shifting identity, celebrate the domestic, probe the sensory, and each is a profound example of creating expression to navigate challenges. Each collection offers an invitation to imagine new ways of stepping into the world with a more delicate and nuanced journey forward. There is so much consideration and tenderness, offered as fashion, and as an opportunity to wear one’s fragility in celebration.

Our capstone runway show is taking over the historic Ballroom at the School of the Art Institute, and we want to thank the many individuals and teams at the school who are making this presentation possible. In addition, we are grateful for the support of the Driehaus Design Initiative, and for faculty Anke Loh and full-time visiting artist Carlo Gibson, who have led the Advanced Fashion Studio in the past year. Congratulations to the class of 2023, and welcome to our guests: enjoy!
