I am a fashion designer who wants to make sustainable styles and clothes which are able to wear for decades. I prefer to design punk and useful designs which will help life be better. Fashion is passion.

Kevin Bae - Perfect denim sleeve

I made a pattern by studying the fit that I think is the prettiest, and for the first time, I used eyelets to highlight the naked feeling of clothes. This clothing represents me the best, and the denim strings give me diversity in the production. And I generously put my pockets into the design. It can be said that it is clothing created by pouring out all the data I have accumulated including using the existing stitch.

For the first time, this clothing was designed in the head while traveling around the second-hand shop, and this cardigan was made by selecting items from the second-hand shop. Its characteristics are its unique raw finish, subtly drawn stitch, and patch and leather pocket at the back

It is my first attempt at upcycling, and it is a form that transforms it into a completely different appearance while maintaining some shape of the original clothes, rather than clothes made from my altars and patterns from the beginning. The reason for making this clothing was my first attempt at upcycling, but I also started with the intention of looking at the existing clothes from a different perspective. The point of this outfit is the winding zipper, the resulting three-dimensional silhouette, and the large pocket and logo attached to the back.
Kevin Bae - Ma-1 Bag
Ma-1 Bag, Nylon Ma-1 jacket , Embroidery strings, and Patches, 23 x 21in., Photo by Josh Yang
This bag is an upcycled bag that transforms the MA-1 jacket into a bag. Using MA-1's signature details, the sensitivity is preserved as it is, and the bag is made with the feeling of the sleeve covering the body to minimize inconvenience. After this work, I felt that the beauty of the upcycling design was that the details were almost preserved even after the existing clothes were upcycled.
Kevin Bae - Damaged Half Denim Half Sweat pants
Damaged Half Denim Half Sweat pants, 2024, Denim, Cotton, Embroidery patch, and grunge, 16 x 37in., photo by Josh Yang
These pants are reinterpreted after being inspired by the brand Bless, which combines jeans and Nike sweatpants. I put the pants back together with a completely different feeling. Still, I interpreted them in my style and designed them not to be completely repulsive even when they are together, making the pants like sweatpants and denim offspring. The point is the logo I created, which shows a huge waist, a winding fit when the straps are crushed on the sweatpants, and a hole in the damaged denim behind it.

In this project, my goal was to build my design direction and style and reinterpret upcycling techniques such as the blue ocean in the fashion world in my way to create existing clothes in a completely new way. In addition, while carrying out this project, I researched to make one item create two productions as a sub. I also researched to change the fit and feel. Design is already on the fashion scene too many times, but I felt that it was vital in the present era to create a new design by mixing it with different designs.
