Fashion is a love letter to myself, a collation of cultural influences, and a reflection of my journey living between Hong Kong and America. My work is shaped by the vibrant cultures and unique identities I come across in both countries. I explore and reconcile my own cultural identity of being a gay, non-binary Chinese and American person dealing with the complexities of my psyche. Drawing upon the intricacies of both Eastern and Western aesthetics, my designs embody a harmonious fusion inviting the viewer on a visual and emotional journey that traverses gender and cultural boundaries. With my garments, I aim to create sculpturally yet wearable forms, each stitch becoming a deliberate expression translating stories into tangible emotions and memories.

Inspired by my Chinese and American heritage and affection for metal, this skirt embodies a blend of cultural influences and personal passion for metalwork. Crafted from denim woven in Dallas, the mini skirt is a foundation. Adorned on top is silk from Shandong, rust dyed with discarded metal scraps, symbolizing time and decay. Additionally, I sewed discarded metal mesh scraps from “Languid Release” under the skirt, building on texture and depth that implements intricate ruching and ruffling within its form.

In sewing this jacket, I played with a circular form. From the dolman sleeve with raglan lines, I wanted to design the jacket that evoked avian fluidity. The sleeves mirror wings, the hem emulates the feathers, and the hood reminiscent of a birds head. Inspired by the colors of city pigeons, the garment blends right into an urban landscape.

The collection's concept was about metamorphosis, the idea of change and transformation, specifically looking at the action of metamorphosis. Drawing inspiration from the shedding of animal skins, the sculptors journey from a marble block to fluid forms to the delicate artistry of Japanese bondage, Shibari. My design evoked the transformative release of stagnation and languidity, embracing both the human form and spirit.
