Evan is a designer and artist from Eugene, Oregon. He is a graduate student in the Designed Objects Program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work combines philosophy, conceptual art, and graphic design. After completing his undergraduate thesis work in photography and philosophy and receiving a BA from Hampshire College, Evan worked professionally as a graphic designer in Portland, Oregon, before enrolling at SAIC.
Ode to Action
I feel it’s my role as designer to see things from many different perspectives. Design allows the opportunity to combine art, technology, business, theory, culture—not just in the creation of designed objects using these disciplines, but by exploring new ways of thinking in which these ideologies interact. I want to use design to help understand the range of human experience, as well to understand ourselves: the limitations and blind spots that our own experience affords. I want to create designs that make us cognizant of our ideas.
