Alice Cook’s visual art uses abstraction to investigate the parallel aspects of personhood, compartmentalization, and the need of control. Her work is autobiographical in nature bringing together different artistic components to create a unified and harmonious whole in the here and now. Cook’s process is both a play between intuitive and analytical use of color, line, shape, and gesture. Experimentation and questioning are critical processes in her practice. Alice Cook was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, where art and art making has always been a part of her life. She continues to show her art at various exhibitions in the Midwest.
