Hailing Liu (b.1997, Shenzhen) is a mixed-media artist based in Chicago. She is mainly working on video compositions and installation. By combining raw, found footage and virtual images, she always plays with meanings of cultural surfaces and explores how they are changing and constructed in our living world in humorous, dark and absurd ways.

Impossible dream is a piece of work with an idea of intercutting car commercials to discuss cultural surfaces and their meanings created by the media. By combining clips grabbed from different car commercials as well as adding my own compositions, I create an absurd fantasy with ambiguous narration as a reflection for audiences, to examine meanings conveyed by the media. The background music is also grabbed from a car commercial which uses the song, “The Impossible Dream,” originally composed by Mitch Leigh & Joe Darion.
