Alexandria McLendon (b. 1997), raised in Alabama, uses her work to reflect memory and dissect the past in order to understand the present. These large-format figurative abstractions are made during a pivotal time in the artist’s life when identity and purpose are constantly changing. The way paint is poured, stomped, danced on, and flung is a representation of the artist’s physical body learning how to move through space. McLendon is a current MFA candidate in the Painting and Drawing department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and completed her BFA in 2D studio art at Troy University. She is a recipient of the Virgene Hawthorne Scholarship, and the Vera Berdich Scholarship, and has shown work recently at 308 Gallery in Chicago, IL.
