Master of Design in Designed Objects

Alyssa Drain is an architectural and object designer whose work investigates human connection with the built and natural environment. Currently, she focuses on furniture, lighting, and various object design. She studied architecture in the environmental design program at the University of Colorado at Boulder, prompting her ongoing investigation of biophilia and biophilic design. Studying architecture and urban planning in Rome, Italy as well as the traditional practice of feng-shui has shaped her unique perspective on environmental design. Alyssa challenges trends of design with nature by employing an innovative approach to biophilic design focusing on pathways to nature connectedness and encourages others to ponder what connection with their surroundings means to them. She is the recipient of several merit scholarships and the Emerging Designer Award for her parametric furniture design piece featured at the 2019 Month of Modern design competition in Boulder, Colorado.
