I am Haoran Yu, a student current study in School of the art institute of Chicago, my major is product design.
I am very passionate about product design/ industrial design and especially commodities and transportation, I am looking for some chance of internship job or full-time job after I graduate in May 2023. I have worked in different companies in terms of industrial design, understanding some design procedures on market field, especially on chair design and Mahjong table designer( furniture design ). Though some big toys, people can shaking, colliding and rotating, which let people established different relationships with other people and objects through this simple interaction. Modern technology has a huge impact on our everyday lives. According to App Annie's State of Mobile 2022 Report Finds, on average, people in the US spend over 4 hours per day on their digital devices. There is a danger that by shunning face-to-face communication in favor of digitally mediated communication. We are becoming less sociable. This thesis project aims to use interactive furniture to create moments of in-person communication between strangers. When people sit on the multi-person rocking seat, it feels like they are playing a childhood game. After returning to that moment of innocence, the communication between two people, is driven by physical interaction, and the distance between them is reduced. Inspired by the Tai Chi picture, the slip casting technique was used to make the window. The ceramic blocks were stacked together to form the main body of the window, and then the frame was made of wood.
