Nakiyah T.M. Jordan

Master of Fine Arts in Writing

Nakiyah T.M. Jordan is a Black and queer Mississippi artist working in fiction, poetry, photo and paint. Her work exists in many mediums at once to tell these play-stories that topple over themselves as they unfold. The experimental form brings readers into worlds that are a blending of time as we understand it.

With a love of her home state in the South, she embraces the use of language she was surrounded by growing up in the rural parts of Southern Mississippi. The rules of that usage, created by generations of Black Americans making English what they needed and wanted it to be, find themselves to be the framework of Nakiyah’s pieces, both written and visual.
