Theresa Henson was born in Arkansas and raised in the rural California Delta. She studied English and Art Studio at University of California Santa Barbara. She has a master’s degree in Transforming Spirituality from Seattle University. She has shared her creative work in both the Pacific Northwest and Bay Area, published poetry in various publications, and creates original piano compositions.

Theresa Henson explores processes of shape and movement as well as encounters among variations of scale. With an array of mixed media materials—including wood, ceramics, and fibers—she studies the proliferation of forms found in diverse ecosystems: in plants and organisms, communities, and the self. She invites others into an idiosyncratic world of haptic presence with ideas of growth that account for pain and destruction as well as intuition and breakthrough. Her inspirations include Japanese aesthetics of the worn and broken, Byzantine iconography, baking, and motions of daily tending that create the flowing tactile world of caring for life.
