My paintings locate the strange and extraordinary in the commonplace. I use large canvases and deep, muddied color in an attempt to heighten moments from daily experience- an unplanned twilight nap, a group gathered around a table, a person cooking a meal. My images are unplanned and rely heavily on the spontaneity of drawing and plasticity of oil paint. Each work emerges from a generative ground of color and texture- an image found, rising up from deep water.

I studied painting at Hampshire College in Western Massachusetts before moving back home to Chicago in order to pursue a career as an artist. When I’m not in the studio I play with my cats, read books, and watch old sci-fi shows.
