Xingrui Xu (b.1995; China, Kunshan) lives and works in Chicago, Illinois. He studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, and received his MFA in Ceramics from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2022. Xingrui expands and develops an engagement with ceramics, paintings, and the conditions for its contemporary practice.

Xu’s practice has expanded his interaction with ceramics and opened up more possibilities for his contemporary practice. Through the use of various technologies and the blurring of this behavior, his involvement in ceramics shows his personal comprehension of natural substances rather than the functional making of ceramics. He also incorporated his actions into his work as a metaphor for the Eastern philosophy of the transformation of natural material.
