Master of Design in Fashion, Body and Garment

ZuRui Chen is a fashion designer of Chinese origin with a background in fashion education from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. While at Otis, he had the privilege of working with renowned costume designer Eduardo Castro and fashion designer Jason Wu on several mentor projects, which helped him develop his garment construction and design skills.
With his passion for fashion, Chen confirmed his primary direction in Couture after joining SAIC. He is passionate about the inherited knowledge of exquisite, fine dressmaking and adores craftsmanship, and the divine handwork that goes into creating each couture piece.
Chen’s creations are characterized by creating different characters and personalities. His designs are themed around scenarios where he puts the characters on a stage to showcase their styles. Chen’s focus on volume, color, and storytelling makes each design a wearable dream.
To Chen, fashion is a game of creativity; individuals can become anyone they want. His designs celebrate stories and represent his passion for creating wearable art that inspires and delights.
