Zoë Cohen

Low-Residency Master of Fine Arts Degree

Zoë Cohen is an abstract painter with a BFA in ceramics. Returning to school to study the cross-currents of contemporary art, she now works with outworn garments to address themes of grief / loss / mending + repair. The lexicon of textiles offer rich associations in relation to the protection + connection necessary for healing from loss: swaddle, wrap, bundle, shroud, tie, entwine, stitch, bind, tether, weave.

Research, writing and process-driven material investigations are foundational to her practice which aims to broaden the scope of conversations around individual and collective grief.
Cohen is an MFA candidate at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Born in Chicago to a family of artists, she spent many formative hours at the Art Institute. Cohen lives in the Pacific Northwest.
