Artist Statement

I am seeking to understand through observation and experimentation with materials and imagery possible mutations of our current living conditions. How can we interact with the aging vestigial elements of modern industry? Chicago is full of rust-colored structures shaping the skyline but serving little purpose in contemporary life. Contemporary life is mutating our relationships with each other, ourselves and the earth. Can we save the earth or do we need to find a way of adapting to its demise. Friendly monsters form from the mash-up of deconstructed figuration. Escape pods or self reliant-floating-mobile homes sail and teeter over the imploding civilization around it. Out of the wreckage of the crumbling American dream, I am imagining composite alternative realities for living with or without each other.

Bio

I make abstract paintings that draw from the historical movements of Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism. There are figurative elements in my work though painted gesturally to subvert our logocentric culture that leads to alienation in urban America.

I live and work in Chicago at present.
I may soon live afloat.
