Artist Statement

L Koo is a contemporary artist whose work explores the relationships of light/lightness, the manifestations of spaces made external, and the weight found between places. Raised in Northern California, she is heavily influenced by the quality of light found in that region, and it is this which is the predominant driving factor and feature in her work. Primarily working to create installations that explore notions of space, light, fragility, and time, she navigates the condition of being as reliant upon what establishes it, but also what destabilizes it. Through this contemporaneous perception of being within space—that which is reliant upon memory both as existent and as occurring, while simultaneously writing itself into record—are the states of being around which she builds her work.
