Telegraphic Fields (Next Transmissions) is the culmination of a year-long classroom exploration into the depths of SAIC’s 150-year history. Over the 2015–16 academic year, students in the class SAIC 150: Repeat Transmissions have engaged with institutional histories. Through archives, historical narratives, and faculty, staff, and alumni reminiscences, these engagements present responses through a diversity of media. The complexity of the students’ research has delivered individual and collaborative projects that activate an expanded sense of SAIC’s campus. They present practices, narratives, and dialogues that reflect SAIC’s core values. The students’ works embody their relationship to the last 150 years of creative exploration through meaning and making, scholarship, and history within Chicago and beyond.
