POLEN is a Tijuana-based collective created in 2008 by Adriana Trujillo and José Inerzia that develops artistic projects through the use of film and media. Their work derives from collaborative projects including films, community workshops, and installation-based artworks.
Nido de Lenguas [Nest of Tongues] is a requiem of the last Yuman survivors in the northwest region of Mexico near Baja California. Intertwining their last remaining myths and magic through geo-symbolic elements, the film mixes history, science fiction, and experimental ethnography. With a plastic, dreamlike visuality, the film is a portrayal of the Yuman geography and the principal myths that touch upon topics such as territory, memory, and fears through the issues of colonialism, exclusion, and rural climate conditions that have been imposed on them throughout the years. Nido de Lenguas is a utopic and futuristic elegy about the imminent death of a people, associated with post-colonization contradictions, modernity, and a dreamless world.
Nido de Lenguas questions the human ability to deter our own self-destruction, becoming an elegy on the causes and consequences of that which we experience increasingly: the extinction of our own humanity.
“At POLEN we build pieces using and media as active vehicles for deconstructing traditional processes and approaches of collaboration, recording, and training. We shun the representational model, and instead focus on performativity and intersubjectivity, by seeking to create spaces for polyphonic communication in which reflexivity is explicitly or implicitly put into practice.” -POLEN

POLEN es un colectivo con sede en Tijuana creado en 2008 por Adriana Trujillo y José Inerzia que desarrolla proyectos artísticos a través del uso del cine y los medios audiovisuales. Su trabajo se compone de proyectos colaborativos que incluyen películas, talleres comunitarios e instalaciones.
Nido de Lenguas es un réquiem sobre los últimos sobrevivientes Yumanos en la región noroeste de México, cerca de Baja California. Entrelazando sus últimos mitos y magias a través de elementos geo-simbólicos, la película mezcla aspectos históricos, ciencia ficción y etnografía experimental. Con una visualidad plástica y onírica, la película es una representación de la geografía Yumana y sus principales mitos relacionados con el territorio, la memoria, el colonialismo, la exclusión y las agrestes condiciones climáticas que han enfrentado durante años. Nido de Lenguas es una elegía utópica y futurista sobre la muerte inminente de un pueblo, asociada con las contradicciones de la post-colonización, la modernidad y un mundo sin sueños.
Nido de Lenguas pone en cuestión la capacidad humana para propiciar nuestra propia autodestrucción, convirtiéndose en una elegía sobre las causas y consecuencias de con lo que experimentamos cada vez más: la extinción de nuestra propia humanidad.
En POLEN construimos piezas a través del uso del film y los medios como vehículos activos para deconstruir procesos y enfoques tradicionales de colaboración, registro y formación. Nos alejamos del modelo representacional, buscando la performatividad y la intersubjetividad; intentando crear espacios de comunicación polifónica donde la reflexividad, explícita o implícitamente, se pone en práctica -POLEN
