Lily Homer

Artist Statement

“During the past year I have felt I desire to connect with my great grandmother, Jeanette, who I never met, through her diary. She wrote it during a different time of upheaval in the world – World War I. I found her words comforting, and a sense of groundedness in connecting with someone who witnessed a different sort of collective trauma. The work consists of a hinged, wooden structure that pivots and zigzags, hung and draped with fabric, which is printed with obscured excerpts from Jeanette’s diary. It can be displayed in infinite configurations.”
