A lot of my work considers spaces and memory. Needless to say in the last couple years my relationship with place has changed. Be that the buildings I passed daily on covid walks which I now pass daily on the train to school, physical distance from loved ones, places of solitude, places I visited years ago that I cant imagine being able to return to, or hidden worlds to immerse myself in.
I am retracing buildings of significance. The act of transcribing and working intimately with the image thru quilting allows me to reflect on these spaces, and memory tied up in these places.
In “mitn kop…” I am building speculative architecture inspired by daily walks, with a hidden yiddish reminder for grounding. Whereas “nasturtiums” recreates the section of my aunt and cousin’s backyard.
