"El Llorar es un Regalo del Alma" (Crying is a Gift from the Soul.), Other materials, acrylic on canvas. 2020
The concept of the act of “crying” is usually related to suffering. Yet, in this painting I want to showcase it as something beautiful. With the use of bright colors I contrast the idea that sadness tie to “darkness.” The style holds a certain naiveté, which help one recall childhood when emotions were pure. The figuration such of the mermaid is repeated because mythologically their tears were described as “precious.” The black and white figure’s tears are used to water the central pink woman so she can flourish. Therefore, crying becomes a true gift for the soul.
