A second year student of the Master’s of Science program in Historic Preservation, Aishwarya Das is interested in the role of preservation as a tool in various cultural contexts. Originally from Bangalore, India, she came into the course with a BArch degree in Architecture from Manipal University. Prior to SAIC, she interned and free-lanced for various Architecture firms in India, worked on green housing and bamboo construction sites and was part of few conservation projects providing documentation services on site. Her thesis explores the possibilities of preserving structures by inspiring the mental process of acquiring knowledge and sustaining it through thought, experiences and memories in collective imagination. It focuses on the South Indian site of Badami, Karnataka, India.
