Initially a photographer, Shengze Zhu co-founded Burn The Film in 2010, and has served as producer and cinematographer for several films. Out of Focus (2014) is her directorial debut, which premiered at the Cinéma du Réel International Documentary Film Festival at Centre Georges Pompidou, France in 2014. Her second feature documentary, Another Year (2016) had its world premiere at Visions du Réel International Film Festival in Nyon, Switzerland and won Sesterce d’or – the Best Film of the International Competition; it also won the Grand Prize at RIDM – the Montreal International Film Festival, and the Critic’s Award at Olhar de Cinema – the Curitiba International Film Festival in Brazil. Another Year was honored as “Top 10 Films of the Year” by 24 Images Magazine in Canada.
