Elizabeth Lira is a Mexican-American animator, illustrator, and printmaker from Houston, TX. Currently, in Chicago, IL, pursuing her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago focusing in animation. She is a merit scholarship awardee and a co-founder and group leader of the university’s Animate Club.
I am inspired by horror subcultures and folktales, punk culture, Mexican-American/Chicanx diasporas, Tejano landscapes, and feminine color palettes. I create objects, infernal creatures, and feminine characters that investigate memory, family dynamics, creature comforts, and intersectional feminism. Much of my research comes from family photo albums, folktales, and articles towards of injustices towards marginalized groups.
