The works in this exhibition are a collection of thoughts, ideas, reflections, and dialogues layered in the form of multiple finite views of the infinite everything. But what is the infinite everything? To me the infinite everything is an idea of an endless sea of possibilities, not limiting oneself into one form of making or being caught in a specific theme or concept. Often we see ourselves being restricted between situations and ideas. In this version of the everything, I look at the in between as the infinite everything, in which while being in between, the chances to wander within transcends the limits of representation, of physical realities, and boundaries. Therefore everyone will be able to tap into an infinite range of “creative” experiences of what art could achieve.
To be in between is not simply to be intertwined with another, as in the joining of separate entities, but to lack an independent, self-contained existence. We don’t exist individually; rather, as individuals we emerge through and as part of our entanglement in the betweenness. This process of emergence can either take place as an event or as a process that occurs according to some external matter of thoughts, surroundings, time and space, or it can be a process through which time and space, like matter and meaning, are continuously reconstituted through the actions of individuals. It thereby makes it impossible to differentiate in any absolute sense between creation and renewal, beginning and returning, continuity and discontinuity, here and there, past and future. Therefore it results in a continuous generative process of ideation, thinking, existence, and making; hence, the infinite everything.
Words can be found intertwined within my drawings, speaking to the speculative and fluid process of creating the sketches. There is a back and forth conversation with the work, where the graphics and the process inspire the written word, and then the written word is entered into the sketch itself to become part of the thought process. As a result, the work will include many overlapped motifs throughout the exhibition emphasizing the importance of the unit as a unique asset, and also as part of a composed collective remix.
Artist Statement
I engage with the ambiguity of the defined, labeled, and provable existence of the self in relation to the existence of physical and hypothetical matter, corresponding to my fluid personal in-between state. To acknowledge the open-ended generative process of creation and existence, I create remixed forms and scenes by composing visual graphics of: collected objects, written texts, typographical letterings, captured images, mundane thoughts, played sounds, reconnected histories, and documented archives. Through a speculative process I explore the infinite possibilities of making, learning and unlearning. Using methods of layering, overlaying, and reduction I toggle these scenes between recognition and obscurity to create reconfigured visuals. Printed matter, editioned objects, and digital play is how my work exists.
