My practice draws upon experience with illness giving form to liminal moments in the body. I attempt to make meaning out of the interface between the industries of medicine, pharmacology, and the interior space of the feeling body. I explore the ideas of culpability, interstices, and interconnectedness that may be seen in a microcosm of one’s being or on a larger societal scale. The content of my work pertains to an inner imagery, interior body, and interventions. The threshold of these boundaries brings ephemeral moments that I seek to represent.
I often choose to work with applications that are meditative, labor intensive, that slow down the creative process. I want the visual language to contrast with the content. I want the beauty of the materials to draw the viewer in so they can experience the work before thoughts of what it might signify come to mind.
