Keith Tolch is an MFA Candidate at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago His work cries out 1992 when he played DOOM, explored Windows 3 1 and DOS It speaks from a place of pixelated edges and backlit, wire framed spaces He is actively engaged by the superficial surface of an impenetrable screen The formal structure of digital space, the peculiar landscapes, theoretical environments and conceptual spaces provide him with an access point to a visual architecture that is unique to his particular moment in history Those visual elements have a tendency to coalesce into an experience that approximates painting His intention is to build a unique vocabulary and an identity through mark making, pictorial structure, and invented formal relationships The structure of landscape resonates with him and through a distorted, digital lens he reacts in accordance with, and against the instinctive impulse to arrange according to tradition.
