I am interested in organizing structures, the home, family, comfort, and the strangeness that happens when contemplating a familiar space for a length of time. I try to access a space between events like the time that passes while waiting. In this space, objective time is less important than subjective time. My paintings describe a feeling of the strange and yet comforting where it is necessary to slow down in order to see and understand something common that has become invisible. I am interested in the often overlooked and very ordinary spaces. They are quiet and still, foster an environment for contemplation, like lying in bed while waiting to fall asleep, waiting for your eyes to focus in the dark, tracing possibilities. I look at and think about the light, patterns, and rhythms and try to access a similar atmosphere of wonder and contemplation in each painting.
