Inspired by Chicago’s spoken word and slam poetry community, Raina left her ten-year high school teaching career to pursue writing and the arts. While at SAIC, studies in concrete poetry, the lyric essay, and systems of writing have greatly influenced her work in creative non-fiction. Her first manuscript, Mantra’matic, has been defined as “ambitious” and “successfully complex,” praise by which Raina is both honored and humbled.
