Intimacy is messy. Learning the ins and outs of another person – their quirks, their smells, the way they laugh, or even where they place their dirty laundry. Intimacy is joy, love, and tenderness, but also pain, loss, and desire. It is work that does not feel like work when done right. We long for love, to be loved, and the intimacy that comes with it. I search to understand love more deeply through a sequence of intimate interactions between my partner and myself. At times the viewer is the third wheel, encouraged to contemplate their own relationships in contrast to ours. Other times the viewer is coupled to an object, forced to notice the space between them as well as the object’s particularities.
