Artist Statement
Symbolism is used in my work to construct a Love Story. This Love Story is depicted via oil paintings and songs. I use The Love Story as a way to explore eternity- a way to explore ways in which the relative and the eternal can exist in harmony.
I write songs in the form of poems, on my 00-18 Martin Guitar. The Love Story symbols: The Sun Palace, The Lovers, The Blue Rose, Long Orange Gown, Dark Tower, Endless Sea, etc. These symbols and their representations guide me as I create. My creation process is rooted in improvisation: a direct route into the present moment.
The Love Story currently is told through 3 songs I have written. To further depict The Love Story I made 3 6′ by 5′ oil paintings: one painting per song. My work is autobiographical as well as Universal. How may the Artist find a way of life that embraces a harmony of the material world and the transcendent?
