Home/Almost Home, 2019
Ruotong Guan is a Chicago based artist recently graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. With photography, Ruotong explores the relationships of her family and the idea of home. Family members, intimate moments and imperfect worn out domestic objects are often her subjects. By making photographs, Ruotong observes the relationship between her parents, her grandparents, and the living space they share. She looks to her family history through different identities: as a daughter, a granddaughter, and an independent individual. Through the installation of images, Ruotong presents the complex family dynamic, the love, and her self growth throughout the years.
