K.E. Schaffer (b. 1983) explores her own agency in the space of each canvas or page she approaches. Keenly interested in how citizenship, politics, identity, and form affect space, Schaffer negotiates her own awkward habits of mark-making and writing in order to create the strongest possible compositions, unifying seemingly dissimilar elements. As a working artist and art educator, Schaffer draws on a vast array of interactions with students, texts, and landscapes to inform her explorations.
