Milly Barzellai was born in 1986 in Israel to Brazilian parents, and spent his childhood between Tel-Aviv and Rio de Janeiro.
He received a B.A in Oceanography and Physics from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa. After serving four years as a Navy S.E.A.L in the Israeli army, Milly went on to earn a B.F.A from Bezalel Academy of Art in Jerusalem. In his work, Milly draws from his battlefield experiences, reflecting on his relationship with images. He works in a wide variety of media (painting, sculpting and video) but refers to all of them as “drawing”. His work explores the line between personal memory and collective images, contrasting the experience of reality in a fatal situation with the image that survives. Barzellai will graduate with his MFA in Painting and Drawing in 2017.
