Uzo found her passion for art at a young age and continued to develop a creative process using various art media both inside and outside the classroom. She earned her B.A. in Comparative Literature at Princeton University, and also studied at The New University of Lisbon and University of Oxford, St. Catherine’s College. She will pursue an MFA in Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. As a first-generation American born to West African parents, Uzo has embraced both her parents’ culture and the American culture she was immersed in, and often explores her quest to connect to her parents’ ancestry in her artwork. African textures and patterns, as well as themes centered around family bonds and Nigerian principles, shine through a number of her pieces. She currently uses mixed media, collage, and found materials to create large, colorful, and highly detailed works of art. Additionally, Uzo’s work explores her own personal journey. As an avid traveler and lover of foreign languages and experiences, she absorbs aspects of the world around her and uses her emotional lens to form a visual dialogue between herself and the viewer. Through her varied experiences, she has since learned the importance of compassion, lightheartedness, and openness in the context of a global community. Producing artwork has allowed her to tap into her own inner spiritual core while sharing her personal experiences with the community at large.
