35mm Analog Cameras

Nikon 35mm Camera

  • Location: 280 Media Center
  • Access: Available to students enrolled in specific Photo classes; Intro to Image Making, Slow Photo, Color Concepts, Black & White, Advanced Black and White

  • Description: Nikon 35mm analog camera w/50mm lens
  • Contents of kit: UV Filter, lens cap
  • Comments: Small, lightweight, easy and fast handling. Excellent for handheld shooting and working at a fast pace. Rangefinder focusing. Excellent for shooting with flash. Features depth of field preview.

Medium Format Analog Cameras

Bronica Camera

  • Location: 280 Media Center

  • Description: Bronica Medium format analog camera w/100mm Bronica lens
  • Contents of kit: Bronica 120 film back, lens cap, dark slide, film spool, waist level finder, neck strap, lens hood
  • Comments: Heavy 6×7 format camera. Suited to use on a tripod. Similar to Mamiya RZ but without bellows focusing. Good for studio shooting, still life, portraiture, landscape.

Hasselblad Camera

  • Location: 280 Media Center
  • Access: Available to students enrolled in specific Photo classes; Medium Format, Advanced Black and White

  • Description: Medium format analog camera w/80mm Hasselblad lens
  • Contents of kit: Hasselblad 120 film back, lens cap, dark slide, film spool, waist level viewfinder
  • Comments: Square 6×6 film format. Very well built and solid. Can be handheld or used on a tripod. Slightly more compact compared to the Bronica and RZ. Good for studio shooting, portraiture, landscape, documentary, street photography.

Mamiya 7 Camera

  • Location: 280 Media Center
  • Access: Available to Photo grad students or undergraduates enrolled in specific Photo classes; Medium Format, Advanced Black and White

  • Description: Medium format analog camera w/80mm Mamiya 7 lens
  • Contents of kit: UV filter, lens cap, film spool, shoulder strap
  • Comments: Lightweight construction and rangefinder design very well suited to handheld shooting in 6×7 film format. Similar in size to larger 35mm SLR’s and very portable compared to RZ and Bronica. Leaf shutter is extremely quiet. Rangefinder focusing. Good for street photography, documentary.

Mamiya RZ Camera

  • Location: 280 Media Center

  • Description: Medium format analog camera w/110mm RZ Mamiya lens
  • Contents of kit: Mamiya RZ 120 film back, UV filter, lens cap, dark slide, film spool, lens hood, shoulder strap
  • Comments: Large and very solidly built 6×7 format camera. This thing is built like a tank—can be hand held but it is much more suited to shooting on a tripod. Often used as a studio camera. Feature bellows focusing for very close and precise focus. Film back can rotate between landscape and portrait orientation while shooting. Good for studio shooting, still life, portraiture, landscape.

Large Format Analog Cameras

4×5 Cambo Camera

  • Description: Large format analog camera w/150mm Cambo lens

  • Comments: Monorail construction with full front and rear standard movements. Primarily a studio camera—excellent for portraiture, still life, and architectural work where high level of precision and perspective control is desired. Much larger and heavier than the Toyo Field 4×5.

4×5 Deardorf Camera

  • Description: Large format analog camera w/90mm Toyo lens
  • Contents of kit: 2 lens caps, 5 film holders, black cloth
  • Comments: Portable, lighter weight, folding 4×5 camera for shooting large format outside and in the field. Folds down to a small, compact size but sacrifices some of the movements and capabilities which are found on the 4×5 Monorail Toyo and Cambo. No rear standard movements. Excellent for landscape and architecture, as well as portraiture and documentary where high level of detail is desired.

K.B. Canham 8×10 Camera

  • Description: Large format analog camera
  • Contents of kit: 240mm 8×10 lens, 300mm 8×10 lens, 2 film holders, dark cloth
  • Comments: Traditional construction 8×10 large format camera. Largest readily available film format for extremely large and exceptionally detailed negatives. Full front and rear standard movements.
