Exhibition Narrative
this project came from observing the dozens of oil platforms on the coast of Cabinda, an exclave of Angola that is my mother’s hometown. realizing how long those oil platforms have been there for, and how engraved they already are onto this horizon and in people’s imaginations, including my own, was a shock. it is incredible and tragic to see dozens of oil platforms polluting and burning gas in giant flares in the horizon day and night, creating their own ceaseless sunsets. this moved me to capture the strangeness and absurdity of these destructively imposing ‘’invasive objects’’ by serializing exaggerated landscapes to harness their mythic potential, suggesting that the oil platforms might be part of a decades-long alien invasion.
