Home is a rich tapestry of emotions, experiences, and meanings, reflecting the diverse and ever-evolving nature of us. It is not limited to a physical space but expands to the communities, traditions, and beliefs that surround us. This multifaceted concept operates in many conflicting ways throughout our lives; it can represent stability and comfort, yet also transformation and tension. Evoking strong associations and locations with family, ritual, and refuge, home is forever in a state of liminality.
A Space Remains explores the complexities of constantly evolving and shifting homes. The artists grapple with the idea of home through inquiry with their own bodies, their families, their traditions, and their geographies. Whether approaching it with suspicion or with an open embrace, their artworks reflect the ambivalent relations each of them has with home as they take a step towards or away from it.
