Wordshop

2024

SITE 280 Gallery

Contributing Artists

Liz Flood, Clare Lobenfeld, Madison Mae Parker

Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:

“Wordshop is a playful invitation into the text-based practices of three interdisciplinary writers and artists. This exhibition considers language not as a xed form but as a container for pliability, experimentation, and reorientation. The work—collage, traces left behind from performance, posters—reveals the materiality of language; interactive elements—card games, collage-able text—invites viewers to revel, themselves, in its potential. Encountering language as a sensory experience in the body through sound, visualization, and somatic exploration, audience members will be immersed in their own curiosities as to how texts might come alive in and through them. The exhibition will open with performances by the artists; many of its products will remain as part of the show.

The centerpiece is a communal table that encourages visitors to spend meaningful time together with our games and tools; to document text derived from their interaction with collage-able language and the results of their game-playing. As such, the gallery also becomes a space for making and meeting. Language is communicative, and we aim for our work and the space to reect this. Additional activations and workshops will be scheduled throughout the exhibition to sustain this generative tempo.”
