Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:
A site of hushed struggle.
Delicate imprints of land on flesh.
Weight of inherited identity.
I carry the postures of men I do not wish to become.
The image arrives late,
After the moment, after the memory,
After the self has already begun to shift.
In the residue,
Where nostalgia falters,
Where the frame can’t hold still.
I follow traces of what’s missing, the body that can not be fully grasped,
The land that remembers.
The images do not declare.
They hover, flicker, dissolve.
A gesture, a shadow.
Light bends, obscures, reveals.
The quiet collapse of certainty.
Disappearance and return, undoing and re-becoming.
Grotesquely converging,
Violently unraveling,
Seamlessly bending.
I scavenge, desperate to grab, to hold, to find what no longer fits.
I listen to the cold.
I let the land speak back.
The familiar becomes unfamiliar once again.
