Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the INCUBATOR Archives:

The treasured pearl’s development begins as an irritant in the fleshy body of an oyster. It is seen as an object of femininity with its conection to the sea, moon, darkness, the unknown, and the Yin principle in Chinese philosophy. A pearl’s ornamentation, also, contains significance in the West, with superstitions including the idea that when worn at a wedding they hold future tears. One legend says the tears Eve cried when she was banished from Eden fell into the sea and transformed into pearls. Their organic shape evoke tears, rain, and bodily fluids. Its precious emotional and physical qualities are tied to renewal and nourishment, as reflected in their form. The drops release the subconcious and its desires, while holding the grains of suffering within its flowing silver.
