Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the INCUBATOR Archives:
Ava L. Peterson (b. 2002, Columbus, OH) received a BFA in Studio Art from Denison University and is a current
SAIC MFA PTDW candidate. Peterson is an interdisciplinary artist using that which is deemed as
too beautiful, too sweet, too polite, and too decorative. Peterson examines the contradictions and theatrics at play within the domestic sphere. What does it mean to observe, play, and practice idealized notions of wealthy
homes? Who carefully orchestrates these rooms, who occupies them, and what does it mean to want the
things inside them? Peterson abstracts these interiors through ill-fitted painted iterations of decorative objects used as props within space, staging the stuff we are made out to desire in attempts to dissect, distort, disguise, fragment, and fray the visual language of affluence.
