Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:
As a queer woman raised in the Church of Christ in Oklahoma, Allison Ward confronts the intersections of femininity, queerness, and subjugation within Christianity, particularly in the Southern United States. This exhibition transforms the gallery into a liminal church environment, confronting the silences embedded within Christian religious tradition and the voices excluded, altered, and suppressed by the institution.
This project is supported in part by a grant from the Mitchell Foundation, administered through Art + Technology / Sound Practices at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
