Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:
“This series of paintings and drawings is the result of my investigation of what it was like to witness the first atomic bomb 50 years ago. Some have passed away. Some are still living with radiation illness like my mother. My intention was to see the incident not from a political point of view but rather from a civilian’s experience. This is not the final answer to my investigation, but just the beginning. I am very grateful to the Student Union Exhibition Committee and Mr. Michael Ryan who made this show possible.

I have created these maps of places I have lived and traveled through by drawing from memory. My movement in the last year in and between St. Louis, the southeast coast of England, western and northern Europe, and now Chicago has disturbed my balance. Consequently, when painting, I searched for colors that made me feel stable, and compostions that were supportive of this color. It has been suggested that these maps are a reevaluation of my movement in order to balance and acclimate myself to this new environment.”
